CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST THE ACADEMICS VIOLATED THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
The Constitutional Court made their decision in favour of academics. In spite of the dropping of the criminal charges, none of the academics has been able to returned to their jobs in academia.
Turkish Academics for Peace, a group who have been dismissed from their university jobs through statutory decrees after signing a 2016 petition would call “we will not be a party to this crime” in 2016 to urge the government to cease its military operations in the country’s Kurdish majority southeast, where curfews and military conflict were devastating locals. After signing a petition, the academics have been given the disciplinary penalties and they lost their jobs. The court ruled that their right to freedom of speech and expression was violated.
